There were no arrests for drunk driving at a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint Friday night in Chula Vista, but several citations were issued, police said Saturday.
The checkpoint was held in the 300 block of East H Street from 6 p.m. to midnight. Eleven citations were issued, six for unlicensed driving or driving on a suspended license, according to Sgt. Anthony Molina of the Chula Vista Police Department.
Of the 4,193 vehicles that traveled through the checkpoint, 1,189 were screened and one was impounded, Molina added. Two drivers passed a field sobriety test.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
