No Light At Signal, Chandigarh Auto Driver Turns Traffic Cop To ‘Help School Kids, Ambulances’
@Source: news18.com
A traffic light failure on Manimajra Road in Chandigarh caused major chaos for drivers and commuters. The situation got worse because no traffic police were there to clear the road. In the middle of the chaos, an auto driver, Anil Kumar, decided to step in. He parked his auto safely at the side of the road and took charge of the traffic himself. He stood at the centre of the road, while carefully letting cars and public transport pass in a systematic manner. His quick thinking kept the traffic moving smoothly until technicians were working. In the video shared by Punjab Kesari Haryana on X (Formerly Twitter), the auto driver left his work and managed the traffic. The incident happened near the Housing Board, on the way to Shimla from Manimajra, which is part of NH 5. Due to a faulty traffic light, vehicles were stuck in all directions. The situation became worse because it was the time when schoolchildren were getting out and people were heading for lunch. ऑटो ड्राइवर बना ट्रैफिक कांस्टेबल, चंडीगढ़ में डेढ़ घंटा किया ट्रैफिक कंट्रोल #ChandigarhTrafficPolice pic.twitter.com/KyzQjfNWRd — Amandeep Pillania (@APillania) July 15, 2025 Reportedly, Anil Kumar left the spot to pick up other passengers soon after the traffic light was fixed. Many on the road praised the auto driver for managing the Chandigarh traffic. People in the vehicle who saw him controlling the situation even saluted him. During this time, several ambulances and VIP vehicles were also stuck, and thanks to his help, they got a clear way without any trouble. Kumar is not just an auto driver, he is known for his social work and often helps people in his community or those in need. Reports also mentioned that he is the head of the auto union and never hesitates to take the responsibility for the traffic police. As of now, it is still not known why the official traffic police of Chandigarh were missing from the Manimajra signal while the technicians were trying to fix the faulty traffic lights. Their absence during such a busy time left many confused.
