ANTIPOLO – Mafy Singson isn’t slowing down — she’s just getting started. Now on her fourth straight week of tournament play, the rising star is choosing excitement over exhaustion as she gears up for the ICTSI Forest Hills Classic, which tees off today, Tuesday, June 1, at the Nicklaus course of Forest Hills Golf and Country Club.Fresh off a solid stint on the China Tour and still riding high from her thrilling Ladies Philippine Golf Tour win at Eagle Ridge last March, Singson is bringing plenty of momentum — and confidence — into this week’s tilt.“I actually feel good coming into this week,” said Singson. “Even if it’s my fourth tournament in a row, I’m more excited than tired. I’ve kept my body in condition and hopefully I can perform well.”The 22-year-old made headlines earlier this month in Sichuan, China, where she co-led after the opening round of the China Golf Women’s Legacy. While she eventually slipped to a T-24 finish, the experience, she said, was worth its weight in lessons.“I learned a lot about myself and my game these past few weeks,” she shared. “I’m looking forward to working on a few things and incorporating what I learned into my game.”Singson’s last LPGT appearance was a statement win — outlasting Florence Bisera in a sudden-death playoff at Eagle Ridge. That came on the heels of a strong top-10 finish at Pradera Verde. Now, back on familiar ground in Antipolo, the former amateur standout is eager for more.“I’m excited to see familiar faces and play a course I’ve already played before,” she said. “Joining the LPGT is always fun for me. I always look forward to it.”But the road to another title won’t be easy. The field is packed with seasoned contenders, including multi-time winner Princess Superal, former OOM champ Harmie Constantino, and consistent threats Mikha Fortuna, Chanelle Avaricio, Sarah Ababa, Chihiro Ikeda, Kayla Nocum, and Gretchen Villacencio. One dark horse to watch? Tiffany Lee. The talented junior and rookie pro has shown flashes of brilliance despite some inconsistencies. She opened strong at Pradera Verde and finished fifth, and bounced back from a rough start at Eagle Ridge to finish third with a gutsy final-round 73. If she puts it all together, she could be in the mix. Also teeing it up this week in the P1 million championship organized by Pilipinas Golf Tournaments, Inc. are Apple Fudolin, Velinda Castil, Rev Alcantara, Kristine Fleetwood, Pamela Mariano, Lucy Landicho, Eunhua Nam, Martina Miñoza, Marjorie Pulumbarit, and Nikki Colon — all looking to make an early move and contend. With confidence high and lessons learned, Singson is ready to test her game once again — and possibly end her marathon run with another big finish.
