Non-profit Kelowna Stands With Ukraine sending truck, quad to the front lines

A used Ford F-350 with more than a few kilometres on it already is about to make one of its longest journeys yet. The donated pickup truck is being sent to the front line in Ukraine after months of fundraising by Kelowna Stands With Ukraine. It’s the second truck from the Central Okanagan organization to make its way to eastern Europe during the ongoing conflict with Russia. This latest shipment will also include a quad donated by the owner of Kelowna's Ziola Design. “The last truck was sent last year. And this time, we have a very good donation from very good people, this nice quad. And it’s been prepared and fixed, so it’s ready to go,” said Daniel Sora, Kelowna Stands With Ukraine president. “It goes with this truck to the Ukrainian front lines, but to a different unit.” Once the vehicles arrive in eastern Europe, Sora will be making the journey himself to ensure they make it to their final destination. Denys Storozhuk, founder and current vice-president of Kelowna Stands with Ukraine, said every little bit helps his homeland fight off the aggressor. “Things like that [the truck and quad], you can think it’s just a drop in the ocean. No, we have so many drops coming that without the help of volunteer associations and citizens all around the world, like citizens of Kelowna, Ukraine would have collapsed a long time ago,” Storozhuk said. It has taken months to raise the money for the truck and quad, partly because the war has faded in the minds of Central Okanagan residents. Meanwhile in Ukraine, the attacks have recently escalated. “Now, they [Russia] send at least 300-400 drones per night,” said Sora. “Plus missiles and bombs and stuff. So it’s getting worse and worse.” He fears by the fall, Russia will be bombarding the people of Ukraine with thousands of drones each night. Kelowna Stands With Ukraine is still trying to raise the final amount needed to cover the entire shipping costs to send the vehicles overseas. You can donate through the non-profit organization’s website.
