A Norfolk beach which once featured on the big screen, has been named as one of the best in the UK. With the more well-known Great Yarmouth nearby, Gorleston-on-Sea can sometimes be overshadowed. The area features a huge bay and stunning sandy beach that stretches below a promenade and cliffs. On Tripadvisor, Gorleston's beach is rated as one of the top 10 beaches in the UK, ranking at number six. It was also named as one of the best beaches in Europe by Tripadvisor earlier this year. As well as its scenic views, the beach has been on the big screen as its location featured in Yesterday, the 2019 film featuring former Eastenders star Himesh Patel who is the only person that remembers The Beatles. Parts of the area such as the rooftop of the Pier Hotel were featured, as well as up to 6,000 extras on the beach. The beach is a “firm favourite” with locals, according to Visit Great Yarmouth. It is also considered a great area for windsurfing, surfing or body-boarding. Sundays during the summer are chill, as a band will play in the bandstand and this is surrounded by deck chairs, allowing visitors to soak up the surroundings. There are many other aspects to the area that cater for all tastes and ages. This includes a yacht pond, splash pad, green cliffs, bowling greens and tennis courts. There is also a trim trail on the cliff top for people to enjoy views of the area, including of the beach, harbour and pier. As well as the beach sites to see, there are a number of cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops to discover. For some more family fun, there is a putt golf course, amusements and also an Edwardian theatre which puts on seaside shows throughout the year. What makes Gorleston even more enticing is the free parking, making it a great choice for a cheap day out. It is around two hours from Cambridge via the A11, A47 and A146.
