Not Shubman Gill! 36-Year-Old Named As More Consistent Player For India In 2-2 Series Draw Vs England

India recently played out one of their most memorable series in Test cricket history, when they secured a 2-2 draw against England in a five-match series, thereby sharing the inaugural Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy with the hosts. This was a great debut series as Test captain for Shubman Gill, with the bat too. Gill emerged as the top scorer of the series with 754 runs, the most by an Indian captain in history in a single Test series. However, despite this brilliant show with the bat, former India batter Ajay Jadeja has named Ravindra Jadeja as the more consistent btter in the series. Ravindra Jadeja slammed 516 runs from 5 games at an average of 86. He slammed five half-centuries and one ton in this series. In an interaction with Sony Sports Network, Ajay Jadeja said that Jadeja has been more consistent than Gill, even pointing out that he could have scored more in four more innings had the other batters at the other end not lost their wickets. “Is anything required to be said? The man has shown you what he can do. I think outstanding. Shubman Gill has scored 754 runs, and you are saying that he has reached close to the best. He [Ravindra Jadeja] has scored nearly 550 runs. He has been more consistent than even Shubman Gill. He had four innings that didn’t end, because the batting ended from the other end. In the entire series, there were only two innings where he got out early,” Ajay Jadeja said “A change was seen there. The fortitude started from there. Then he kept standing in the next match and drew the match. Then he scored runs in this match (last Test) as well,” he further added. This is now the most by a visiting player on English soil, as he broke the record of the legendary West Indies all-rounder Garfield Sobers, who slammed five fifty-plus scores in 1966. Jadeja's tally of 516 runs is the second-highest by a visiing player batting at no.6 or below in England, just behind Sobers' record of 722 runs in 1966.
