Not Shubman Gill! Mark Boucher Names 4 Cricketers Who Could Be Stars Of The Future
@Source: news18.com
Legendary South African wicketkeeper-batter Mark Boucher has named four young players who, according to him, could be stars of the future. In his list, the 48-year-old former stumper included two Indians and two players from South Africa, but surprisingly there was no mention of India’s Test captain, Shubman Gill. Gill has been in red-hot form these days. In his first two red-ball matches as captain of the Indian team, he has amassed a total of 585 runs. His super run with the bat against England helped him rise 15 positions on Wednesday (July 9) and become the world’s No. 6 Test batter. During ESPN Cricinfo’s 25 Questions show, when Boucher was asked to name “Three young players today who do you think could be stars of the future?” He mentioned four “names—”Tilak Varma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and I will name four—(Tristan) Stubbs and (Dewald) Brevis.” Tilak, Jaiswal, Stubbs, and Brevis have all made their international debuts after first making headlines in the U-19 World Cup. While Jaiswal is a regular member of India’s Test and T20I teams, Tilak is part of India’s T20I setup, and Stubbs is part of South Africa’s team in all three formats of the games. During the Q/A session, Boucher was also asked to pick three players for his all-time T20 XI, and he mentioned Suryakumar Yadav, Heinrich Klaasen, and Sachin Tendulkar’s names. Boucher, who is arguably the greatest wicketkeeper of all time, was also asked to name the greatest wicketkeeper after his time, and in reply he said, “Up to the stumps, definitely MS Dhoni, and standing back, I will have to go with Quinton de Kock.” When quizzed about the most complete cricketer on the circuit today? Boucher said, “If you look at the one-day format or the white-ball format, I will have to say Hardik Pandya and then maybeBen Stokes.”
