Not Virat Kohli! Mitchell Starc Labels 32-Year-Old Star As 'India's Mr. Fixit'

Mitchell Starc reserved high praise for the Indian team after they won the 2025 Champions Trophy under Rohit Sharma's captaincy after beating New Zealand in the final on Sunday (March 9). The veteran Australian pacer missed the tournament for personal reasons, as the World Champions were knocked out by the Men in Blue in the semi-final. Starc reserved high praise for KL Rahul, who played an important role in India's victory. Despite being demoted to number six in the batting order, Rahul made 140 runs in four innings and was dismissed just once. He walked out to bat in run chases thrice and stayed unbeaten all three times. The 32-year-old scored the winning runs with a six against Bangladesh and in the semi-final while watching from the non-striker's end when Ravindra Jadeja sealed India's victory in the final against New Zealand. Starc hailed Rahul's versatility and his ability to do multiple jobs for the team. The two-time Cricket World Cup winner named Rahul as 'India's Mr. Fixit.' "KL Rahul is like Mr Fixit for India - He has opened the batting when asked to, batted at Number 6, Kept, fielded, batted in middle order -- he has done just about everything, he has played vital roles, excited to play alongside him," said Starc on the Fanatics TV Youtube channel. Starc and Rahul will soon share a dressing room after both were purchased by Delhi Capitals in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) Mega auction. The Delhi-based franchise will start the 2025 IPL season with a clash against Rahul's former franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on March 24th at Visakhapatnam. Ahead of the ODI series against England, Rahul's spot in the playing XI as the team's first-choice wicket-keeper had come under question after he was dropped from the team for the third ODI against Sri Lanka in August and Rishabh Pant's return from injury. Rahul finished the tournament with an average of 140, which is the most by an Indian batter in an ICC tournament. He started the tournament with an unbeaten knock of 41 against Bangladesh but did not get a chance to bat against Pakistan. He was dismissed for 23 against New Zealand in the league stage, which was the only team he lost his wicket. He remained not-out in the tricky run-chases against Australia and New Zealand in the semi-final and final with knocks of 42 and 34.
