Son of Sticky scores!
This is what we have come to see.
Jed Stuart has just touched down in the south-eastern corner. The newbie has finished off a lovely break in the middle of the field, and some nice lead-up work from Seb Kris.
The cameras immediately panned to Ricky Stuart, who was doing his best to remain composed.
Raiders open the scoring
And there’s our man again, Joe Tapine!
This is what we call, in the rugby league biz, a 12-point play. The big bopper has now planted the ball down up the other end of the field.
And the man who put him into a gap? None other than fellow prop Josh Papalii.
The big men are up and about tonight. That’s a fitting reward for Tapine’s work without the footy.
Raider lead 6-0.
Tapine try-saver
What a huge play.
For all money, Jarome Luai seemed destined to score the opening try of the game. Running onto a Terrell May offload, Luai was about to plant the ball down … until the Raiders prop got himself between the Steeden and the in-goal.
Massive moment.

Jed into the game
A couple of good early involvements from Jed Stuart.
The debutant winger caught an attacking bomb, and then prevented what appeared certain to be a 40-20 from Apisai Koroisau.
Old man Stuart was a blubbering mess when Josh Papalii broke the club’s appearance record, so I can only imagine how he will react if his own flesh and blood crosses for a meat pie.
And we’ve kicked off!
We’re under way.
Raiders have first use of the Steeden.
Welcome to first grade, Jed Stuart
I spoke to Ricky Stuart yesterday about the debut of Jet.
“Sticky” wears his heart on his sleeve, so I asked him how he will cope emotionally with the occasion.

“I get embarrassed with my emotions,” he said. “Honestly, I wish there was a tablet that could help me. Maybe a shot of whisky.”
Let’s hope he reaches for a stiff drink from the very top shelf.
If you missed it, you can read the entire yarn here.

How many Batmen do the Tigers need?
Jarome Luai left the four-peat champions in order to become the man.
To stop playing second fiddle. To take on the No.7 jersey and all of the responsibility that comes with it.

So why did Wests Tigers try to sign Adam Reynolds?
It’s a moot point, given Reynolds was never going to leave the Broncos. But does it suggest the Tigers, after just half a season, have decided Luai is not the man?
Luai had a mixed night against the Maroons and will be primed to remind everyone what he’s capable of.
These here are crazy times
The poet laureate Dale Ryder, of Boom Crash Opera fame, once sang “These here are crazy times.”
He could well have been referring to the 2025 NRL season. So condensed is the competition that the Tigers sit just one win above the last-placed Titans, and just one win outside the top eight.
If Benji Marshall’s men are to improve their station, the time is now. They are up against a Canberra team that is absolutely flying, giving the underdogs a chance to make a statement.

The teams are locked in and Jarome Luai and Hudson Young will both back up from Origin.
Tigers’ Da Silva ponders swap deal with Newcastle for Pearce-Paul
By Dan Walsh
Rising Wests Tigers star Tallyn Da Silva has been given permission to negotiate with rival clubs immediately as South Sydney work toward Bud Sullivan staying at the Rabbitohs rather than returning to the joint-venture next season.
Da Silva has fielded interest from Newcastle, along with other unknown rivals, regarding a move with both long- and short-term moves for the young hooker raised this week.
Wests Tigers CEO Shane Richardson confirmed discussions between the two clubs had at first centred on loaning Da Silva, who is contracted at Concord for another 18 months, to the injury-stricken Knights for the rest of 2025.
Newcastle has since floated a swap deal that would see Da Silva join the Knights in exchange for English back-rower Kai Pearce-Paul taking up his three-year deal with the Tigers (originally for next season) before the June 30 mid-season deadline.
Da Silva’s agent has in turn requested and been granted permission to go to market before November 1. The 20-year-old local junior is rated one of the best young hookers in the game.
