Amazon MGM Studios has acquired the rights to make a biopic on golfing great Tiger Woods, inspired by Kevin Cook's book The Tiger Slam: The Inside Story of the Greatest Golf Ever Played. The film will be directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, who earlier helmed King Richard (2021). Barack and Michelle Obama's production company, Higher Ground, is in talks to co-produce the film. The biopic will trace Woods's journey from a child prodigy to one of golf's greatest athletes. It will especially emphasize Woods's exceptional accomplishment of winning four consecutive major championships, a feat known as the Tiger Slam. The movie will be based on Cook's book, which chronicles Woods's iconic 1997 Masters victory and his return to Augusta National four years later to complete the unprecedented Tiger Slam. While the film will chronicle Woods's early career and his meteoric rise to fame, it will not explore the scandals and injuries that defined the later part of his career. Notably, this includes his battles with sex addiction, extramarital affairs, and a drunk driving arrest in 2017. The decision to omit these elements from the film is in keeping with the focus on Woods's golfing achievements. So far, no timeline has been announced for the Woods biopic. However, this project reaffirms Amazon MGM's commitment to invest in feature films. The studio recently announced plans to release 12 to 14 features in 2026. Director Green, meanwhile, is known for films such as Bob Marley: One Love and Joe Bell.
