HALLOWELL – Oscar Thomas “Tom” Feagin, 86, passed away at Oak Grove Center in Waterville on May 27, 2025. Tom was born in Oxford, Mississippi to the late Oscar Rabb and Zelia Obion (Watson) Feagin.
Tom graduated from high school and went on to follow his dream of becoming a doctor. He graduated from college at the University of Mississippi in 1959. Tom went to Germany for a year on a Rhodes Scholarship and attended graduate school at Johns Hopkins University Medical School, where he completed his program in 1964. Tom completed his internship and residency at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., in 1968.
He met his wife Judith “Judy” Hestwood Feagin while attending medical school, and they married in 1964. They were married for 58 years until Judy’s passing in late 2022.
In their free time, Tom and Judy enjoyed many activities such as doing crossword puzzles, playing bridge, visiting museums and the Maine coast, and learning about international cuisines. Tom was often involved in amateur theatre and community singing groups, and enjoyed playing golf and gardening.
After moving his family to Maine in 1969, he joined the Public Health Service in which he served for two years. Tom went into private practice with Kennebec Internal Medicine in 1971. He was selected to be a Fellow of the American College of Physicians in the late 1970’s and joined the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, La. in 1981. Tom and Judy later moved to Memphis, Tenn. where he joined the Methodist University Hospital in 1993 before returning to private practice in 1998, running a solo practice. While in Memphis, Tom became the medical director of a hospice organization and officially retired in 2004, after moving back to Readfield.
He was predeceased by his wife, Judy. Tom is survived by his sons, William Feagin of Jonesport, and James Feagin and his wife Evelyn Feagin of Readfield; as well as his grandchildren, Emery, Silver, and Charles Feagin.
Tom’s celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 14 from 12 – 2 p.m. in the Maine Lodge at Granite Hill Estates, 60 Balsam Drive in Hallowell. Following the celebration, interment will be held at 3 p.m. at Kents Hill Cemetery, Main Street in Readfield. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
