Obituary: Robert “Bob” Houle

WINSLOW – Robert “Bob” Houle passed away March 22, 2025 at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta from complications from a fall. He was born in Waterville, April 7, 1931, the son of Laurier J. Houle and Claire Duquette. He went to Waterville schools and graduated from Waterville High School in 1949. Always a hard worker, he sets pins at the local bowling alley while in grade school and during high school work at Sterns Department Store. He served in the US Air Force from Oct. 3, 1950 to his retirement June 30, 1971. While in the Air Force he was stationed in Wethersfield England, Dow AF Base in Bangor, Luke AF Base, Glendale, Ariz. and Cannon AF Base, Clovis, N.M. before retiring back to Maine settling in Winslow. He served two tours of Vietnam. He retired as a Master Sargeant working most of his career on jet fuel systems. He was very proud of his job keeping the military aircraft in top shape, especially the F-111 fighter jets. On his first tour away from the US in England in 1952, Bob met his beautiful wife of 70 years, Heather M. Pavitt. They were married in Chelmsford, England on Jan. 29, 1955. After his Air Force retirement, he joined the staff of Houle’s Plumbing and Heating in Waterville, serving as service manager, and later President of the board of directors of ANCO before retiring after 26 years of service. Bob was a lifetime member of the VFW, the American Legion and Waterville Elks 905. Heather and Bob lived in Winslow from 1972 until moving to East Pond in Oakland in 1986. They enjoyed lake life with their family and friends until moving back to Winslow in 2008. Bob loved to fish, play a little golf and making trips to the casino. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and would do anything for his family. friends and neighbors. Bob is survived by his wife Heather of Winslow; daughter, Sharon Houle of Waterville, daughter Paula Sirois of Thomaston; sister, Rita Pooler of Winslow, brother, Paul Houle and his wife Charlene of Oakland; granddaughter, Karrie Ouellette, her husband Jim and their daughters Natalie and Claire; grandson, Matt, his daughter Ramona and his partner, Sarah; grandson, Jeff Sirois of Colorado Springs; plus several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Lanoy, the nurses and staff at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta for their amazing care and compassion. Also thank you to Jeff Pooler for all his help with his Uncle Bob. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Notre Dame Catholic Church, 116 Silver Street, Waterville. A committal Service will be held at noon on Monday, April 7, 2025 at the committal shelter of the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 143 Blue Star Highway, Augusta Arrangements are under the direction and care of Gallant Funeral Home, Funeral Home, 10 Elm Street, Waterville.
