Office Of Edo First Lady Strengthens Ties With S’Africa On Developmental, Advance Key Economic Sectors

BENIN – Mrs Edesili Anani, Coordinator, office of the First Lady, Edo State has received an invitation to form a corporate partnership with the Consul General of the Republic of South Africa.
This collaboration is designed to strengthen developmental ties and advance key economic sectors, with a special focus on empowering women and youth.
The meeting was held at the Office of the First Lady in Government House, Benin City, where representatives from both parties discussed the scope and potential impact of the partnership.
During the meeting, Mrs. Anani, highlighted the critical importance of women empowerment and youth development. She emphasized the need to support vulnerable women who have experienced violations, noting that their rights have been severely affected mentally, and emotionally.
Mrs. Anani expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, underscoring that initiatives such as mentorship and digital empowerment in science and technology are crucial to preparing these women for a modern economy.
In addition to addressing the needs of women, the meeting also focused on youth empowerment.
Mrs. Anani pointed to potential investments in the hospitality sector as a means to engage and empower young people, advocating for a holistic approach to rehabilitation.
She questioned, “Beyond rehabilitating and bringing victims of trafficking into shelter, what happens afterwards? How do we disabuse their minds? How do we reintegrate them into the society?”
This comprehensive strategy aims to provide sustainable development opportunities that extend well beyond immediate rehabilitation.
Prof. Bobby Moroe, the Consul General of the Republic of South Africa, expressed a strong desire to collaborate with the Edo State Government.
He identified several areas of mutual interest, including youth development programs, agro-processing and agriculture, science and technology, arts and culture, and tourism and hospitality.
The Vice Consul Ms. Busisiwe Dlamini reinforced the Consulate General’s commitment to women empowerment by sharing details of existing initiatives and extending an invitation to participate in South Africa Week holding in Lagos State—an event designed to foster social connections through engaging activities like golf, movies, and entertainment.
The meeting was further attended by prominent dignitaries, including Mrs. Mabel Oboh, Chief Protocol for the Office of the First Lady, and Mrs. Esther Kolade, Women Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Oredo Local Government.
The discussions concluded on a note of optimism and mutual commitment, with both parties eagerly anticipating a productive partnership that will significantly enhance the lives of women and youths in Edo State.
