The Ogun State government has announced that the recently completed first phase of the Gateway Aviation Village in Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area, has created over 5,000 jobs and injected at least N700m into the economy through workers’ wages. The Commissioner for Housing, Jamiu Omoniyi, disclosed this on Tuesday while inspecting the housing estate, which consists of 100 residential units. “Through our direct labour approach, this project has provided employment for about 5,000 people, including bricklayers, electricians, carpenters, and other construction workers,” Omoniyi said. He explained that the wages paid to workers throughout the six-month construction period amounted to at least N700m, significantly boosting the state’s economy. With the first phase fully sold out and equipped with essential infrastructure such as drainage systems, roads, electrical fittings, and security, the commissioner assured that residents could begin moving in within days. “For the first phase of the Gateway Aviation Village, we have a 75,000-litre water reservoir, and the road network is 98 percent completed. By Wednesday (today), the estate will be fully tarred, allowing residents to move in immediately,” he stated. Omoniyi also revealed that preparations were underway to launch the second phase of the aviation village, comprising 200 additional housing units, before the end of the first quarter of the year. The commissioner highlighted the project’s role in supporting businesses and workers around the Gateway International Airport on the Iperu-Ilisan Road, positioning the Remo development cluster as a commercial hub. “Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration is committed to opening up the Remo development clusters, including the much-talked-about Gateway Village and world-standard aerotropolis. These will facilitate the movement of goods, services, raw materials, and agricultural products, reinforcing this area as a center for business and connectivity within Ogun State,” he said. Omoniyi also emphasised that the aviation village would serve as a residential community complementing the aerotropolis, ensuring a thriving environment for businesses and professionals working around the airport. Meanwhile, the commissioner and his entourage paid a condolence visit to the palace of the Alaperu of Iperu-Remo, Oba Adeleke Idowu-Basibo, who passed away after a brief illness at Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilisan-Remo.
