Oliver Glasner has criticised Jean-Philippe Mateta for his performance in Crystal Palace’s 5-2 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.
Palace raced into a two-goal lead at the Etihad Stadium with Eberechi Eze and Chris Richards finding the net after 21 minutes.
However, Palace then collapsed as Kevin De Bruyne scored with a free-kick before City pulled level through Omar Marmoush.
Mateo Kovacic put City ahead shortly after half time before James McAtee and Nico O’Reilly struck to complete the win for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Mateta, meanwhile, was replaced by Will Hughes during the half-time break and Glasner confirmed after Palace’s defeat that the substitution was not injury related.

‘Yes, it was a tactical decision,’ Glasner said.
‘Now, I have to say it was the wrong decision. Not to take him off but changing the formation to a 3-5-2. We wanted to control the midfield more, the pocket, but it didn’t work.’
Asked about Mateta’s reaction, Glasner said: ‘I didn’t make a mistake to sub him.
‘I think he can do better than he did in the first half. He lost too many duels and too many balls. That’s why we thought to change something.
‘The mistake I made was to change the system, not to sub JP.’
