Olympic track-and-field sprinter Fred Kerley was arrested on charges of touch or strike battery, according to court documents obtained by PEOPLE.
Arrest records show that the 29-year-old athlete was arrested on Thursday May 1 in Dania Beach, Florida — just two days before he was set to compete in Grand Slam Track's inaugural Miami competition. His bond was set at $1,000 and records show that his bond is still pending as of Friday afternoon.
Grand Slam Track issued a statement on Friday confirming that Kerley will not compete in the event. "Fred Kerley was arrested last night. The matter is under active investigation, and all inquiries should be directed to the Broward County Sheriff's Office," Grand Slam Track said, per Reuters and LetsRun.com. "Fred will not compete this weekend."
According to LetsRun.com, Kerley was taken into custody at the meet hotel for the Grand Slam Track event, and according to TMZ and Reuters, police said the alleged victim of Kerley's battery was his ex-girlfriend and fellow Olympian, Alaysha Johnson.
Police said that Johnson, 28, reportedly told authorities she ran into Kerley, whom she had previously dated for a six-month period, during her conditioning appointment. Per TMZ, Kerley reportedly began arguing with her and eventually made threats to the effect of "f--- everyone up in here," during the incident.
Per the arrest report cited by ESPN, Reuters and TMZ, Kerley allegedly struck Johnson a single time in her facial area, causing her nose to bleed.
This is the second arrest for Kerley this year. In January, he was arrested and charged with battery following a confrontation with police in Miami Beach, local Miami news station WSVN and NBC Miami reported at the time. He was also tased during the incident.
Kerley reportedly approached police officers at the scene of an active investigation on the evening of Thursday, Jan. 2 and expressed concern for his car, which was parked near the scene where police were investigating on the 100 block of 9th street.
According to NBC, authorities used a stun gun on him after they said Kerley's "demeanor became increasingly aggressive" and he denied the officers' request for him to leave the scene. Police also described Kerley assuming a "fighting stance" during the altercation with officers.

His girlfriend, Cleo Rahman, had also been at the scene and filmed Kerley's interaction with police. Footage from NBC shows that she screamed at officers to stop during the scuffle: "He's an athlete, please do not mess with him." Kerley pled not guilty to charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest in February, according to NBC Miami.
Kerley won the silver medal in the men's 100-meter race at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and bronze in the same event at the 2024 Paris Games. He was also a member of the men's relay team that failed to medal in the 4x100-meter event in Paris.
