Olympian Paul Juda proposes to fellow Wolverine after winning national title with Michigan

It was a day of rings for Paul Juda. After he won a national championship with the Michigan men’s gymnastics team on Saturday night, he got engaged to his girlfriend, Reyna Guggino, at Crisler Center. Guggino is on Michigan’s women’s gymnastics team. “From the first time I saw you I thought I wanted to marry you,” said Juda, still in uniform, in front of the crowd. “You make me a better man and a better person.” He added: “I just wish I was half of the man you are,” laughing along with others once he realized his verbal mix-up. He got down on one knee and proposed, displaying a ring inside of a box. She said yes. It was not the first postgame proposal inside Crisler Center this year. Michigan basketball player Vladislav Goldin and his girlfriend, Camryn Vogler, got engaged after a game in February. The Wolverines had lost that game. Juda’s big moment came after he and his teammates had won a national championship. He won the parallel bars and his final vault clinched the title. Guggino is already a national champion, having won with Michigan as a freshman in 2021. It was the one prize that had eluded Juda, who’d won NCAA individual titles, been named the Big Ten gymnast of the year, and won a bronze medal with the United States team at last summer’s Olympics. He’d say that Guggino’s national championship ring had motivated him to earn his own. He got it in his sixth season. Guggino will also compete for a sixth season next year. Like Juda, she had a year that didn’t count due to the NCAA’s COVID-19 waiver and a medical redshirt season, having missed most of this year due to injury. In other words, they may be done adding to their ring collection.
