COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Former Olympic gold medalist and Ohio State wrestler Kyle Snyder is among 16 people accused of involvement in a prostitution sting in Columbus, Ohio, authorities said.
Snyder, 29, responded to an online ad for escort services posted by the Columbus Division of Police, according to Sgt. Joe Albert. He called and texted one of the ads around 8:15 p.m. on May 9 and agreed to meet at a hotel near Columbus’ North Side. Snyder paid an undercover officer cash to engage in a sex act and was arrested for engaging in prostitution, Albert said.
Snyder was released from the scene following his arrest. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 19.
Snyder wrestled at Ohio State from 2015-18, helping the Buckeyes win the 2015 NCAA team championship while winning three consecutive NCAA heavyweight championships from 2016-18. The four-time All-American finished his collegiate career with a 75-5 overall record. He was inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024.
Competing internationally, Snyder became the youngest wrestler to win an Olympic gold medal in Team USA history at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He also won a silver medal in Tokyo in 2021 and finished fourth in Paris in 2024. Overall, Snyder owns 42 international wrestling competition medals, including 30 gold, six silver and six bronze.
Snyder signed with the Real American Freestyle Wrestling league earlier this month. The league, launched this month by former WWE stars Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, will hold its first event August 30 in Cleveland, according to its website.
