Irish legend, Peter O’Mahony, will captain the Barbarians in his final international rugby match of a 13-year career, when the famous invitational side takes on the Springboks in Cape Town, on Saturday.
The 35-year-old with 114 test caps for Ireland and one for the British and Irish Lions, will lead a team packed with international quality.
Fellow Ireland Test centurion Cian Healy, who will also call time on his rugby career on Saturday, packs down at loosehead alongside France’s Camille Chat and Samoan tighthead, Paul Alo-Emile.
The Barbarians’ loose trio is also packed with international experience with O’Mahony featuring alongside former All Black captain Sam Cane and another New Zealander, Shannon Frizell.
Meanwhile, Metrorail in the Western Cape says it will operate a normal train service with additional trains on the Cape Flats and Southern Lines in support of the rugby match.
The Springboks will go head to head with the Barbarians at the DHL Stadium in Green Point. Spokesperson, Zino Mihi, says one additional inbound train will run on the Cape Flats line to the city and six additional outbound late-night trains.
Mihi says this to ensure that fans can safely and effectively travel to and from the Stadium. She says normal train fares apply.
“Fans are advised to plan their journey in advance and utilise the train services provided by Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) Metrorail Western Cape. The region is proud to be part of this iconic event and to provide a safe and convenient transportation option for all participants. Also, there will be extra security deployment on the trains and station,” she adds.
