ON THIS DAY IN OUR HISTORY: Magani’s long, long run at half-time

At half-time on Friday night during the DCA-Magani-Badili rugby league match in Port Moresby, the Magani players ran off the field into their dressing room.
However, they kept running.Out the back door they ran, through the entrance gate and out into the car park.
But their run was still not finished. They kept going until they were out of the car park and on the road before they stopped.
The reason for this was so they could receive their half-time words of wisdom from coach Don Fox.
On Friday afternoon, a special meeting of the Papuan Rugby League management committee of the Papuan Rugby League barred Fox from the rugby league venue at Boroko.
The reason for the ban was that Fox had trained Magani on the main PRL ground last Thursday after being refused permission to do so.
President of the PRL, Danny Mea, said Fox had sought permission to train his players on the ground during the week, but his request was rejected on Wednesday night.
He said the only times the ground could be used for training was by representative sides and the two sides competing in the grand final.
So Fox has now joined the crowd outside the fence, standing on his car to watch his team play.
Personally, the whole thing sounds ridiculous to me, and makes something of a mockery of the sport.
A bit of commonsense by both sides in this matter surely would not go amiss.
