The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a five-member armed robbery syndicate responsible for a series of coordinated attacks across multiple states in northern Nigeria.
The five-member armed robbery gangs were arrested after a forceful invasion of a private company located in Akure, the Ondo state capital, making away with valuable property and assets.
The arrest of the notorious armed men led to the recovery of a stolen DAF truck who have been operating across some states in the northern region of the country.
The police disclosed that the suspects were apprehended following a coordinated intelligence-led operation that traced the stolen vehicle from Akure, the Ondo State capital, to their criminal hideouts.
He explained that the syndicate was found to be responsible for a series of armed robberies and vehicle thefts spanning multiple states.
According to the Command, the gang not only specialised in highway robberies but also engaged in the forgery of vehicular documents to disguise the identity of stolen vehicles before selling them.
Speaking on the arrest of the syndicate, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, explained that the syndicate on February 8, 2023, stormed the premises of Dollar Boys Global Investment, located at Okuta, Elerinla, Akure.
According to him, “the assailants reportedly overpowered security personnel with firearms and other dangerous weapons, inflicted bodily harm, and fled with a white DAF truck bearing registration number T94121 and chassis number XLRTE85COF572200, along with other valuables.
“The matter resurfaced after a formal petition was submitted by the truck’s owner and routed through the Commissioner of Police’s office on May 23, 2025.
“This prompted the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad (AKS) to launch an intensive, intelligence-led investigation.
“The breakthrough came when detectives tracked the truck to Brinni Kudi in Jigawa State, leading to the arrest of one suspect.
“Further operations led officers to Gulu in Rimi Gado Local Government Area and Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, where two additional suspects were apprehended.”
Ayanlade said “The operation culminated at Dogodaji House in Sokoto state, where two more suspects were arrested and the stolen truck was eventually recovered.
“Police investigations revealed that the vehicle had been significantly altered, with modifications made to its structure and identifying features to evade detection.
“This criminal network went to great lengths to conceal the identity of the stolen truck. But through determined and professional investigation, the Command was able to dismantle the syndicate.”
The police spokesperson added that the operation reflects the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police to intelligence-driven, people-centered policing.
He assured residents of Ondo state that the police remain committed to ensuring that no criminal escapes justice, no matter how far they may run.
