A high-level women’s basketball recruit from the state of Oregon is staying home.
Taylor Young, a guard out of Crater High School in Southern Oregon, announced her commitment to the Oregon State Beavers on Friday.
Young, who hails from the town of Central Point, is among the top prospects in the state from the Class of 2026. She is set to join the Beavers next summer.
Young led the Comets to their first state championship in March, besting South Albany in the 5A title game. She had 25 points, including eight down the stretch of the fourth quarter to force overtime, where her team emerged victorious.
She previously played for South Medford before transferring to Crater, and has some family history in the state for women’s basketball: Young’s mother and aunt were part of the first Crater team to make it to the state title game back in 1998.
Young will now join an Oregon State program led by Scott Rueck with a history of recruiting and developing in-state talent. Current players like former Barlow star Kennedie Shuler commented on her Instagram announcement in support.
