ORMAND FC of Rigo inland secured their first win of the 2025 Port Moresby Soccer Association’s men’s division one yesterday.
The Senda Ruga Ormand FC coached side defeated a resilient fifth placed Amalabak LPS, 1-0.
It was the right boot of Jovey Mamata who scored their match winner in the first half after chasing down a through ball which caught the flat footed Amalabak LPS backline off guard.
For Ruga, the win means a lot to them given they have been on a four-game draw including four losses in which has placed them on 11th placing on the ladder.
“All our games we have been coming out with draw, losses, and today (yesterday) is our first win of the season…
we are very proud of our first win.”
“We aim to maintain this winning spirit and continue on with our remaining games.”
“We missed so many opportunities and we challenged ourselves to improve…
we have identified our mistakes and in our next training we will work on our weaknesses,” said Ruga.
Having two players in the team studying respectively at University of PNG and Pacific Adventist University, three players in grade 12 including few employed, the team represents Rigo inland.
“We represent a river, called Ormand, in which we usually travel on to reach our PMV bus stop.”
“All the villages follow through on the river and there is common bridge (Ormand bridge) along Magi highway and that is how we name our team,” said Ruga.
