Turkish champions Galatasaray are considering increasing their Super Eagles contingent
Victor Osimhen may soon be reunited with a fellow Nigerian international at Galatasaray, as reports from Italy suggest the Turkish giants are exploring a move for Udinese’s under-fire goalkeeper Maduka Okoye.
With talks still in their infancy, the potential deal could see the Super Eagles forward and shot-stopper link up in Istanbul next season.
Galatasaray offered Okoye amid legal controversy
According to well-sourced Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Udinese have officially offered Maduka Okoye to Galatasaray with a €15 million price tag.
The Süper Lig champions are yet to make a formal move, but the 24-year-old’s availability has sparked interest beyond Turkey, with Bournemouth, Inter Milan, and Torino also monitoring the situation.
Okoye’s future in Serie A has become complicated following an ongoing investigation into alleged sporting fraud.
Italian authorities believe he may have intentionally earned a yellow card in a March 2024 match against Lazio, triggering suspicious betting wins totaling over €120,000 in Udine. The disciplinary process is underway, and if found guilty, Okoye could face up to a four-year ban.
Nigerian connection growing stronger at Galatasaray
Should Galatasaray proceed with the deal, it would further cement the club’s growing Nigerian core, led by Osimhen, who spent last season on loan and is pushing for a permanent move.
Okoye, who has earned 18 caps for Nigeria, is looking for a fresh start following a difficult year off the pitch.
His arrival in Istanbul could offer a morale boost for both players, especially with Galatasaray preparing for a Champions League campaign and looking for a replacement for legendary goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, who left the club this year.
While the legal uncertainty around Okoye’s case makes a deal complex, the appeal of reuniting two prominent Nigerian internationals in one of Europe’s loudest footballing environments may be too tempting to ignore.
