The Ospreys insist they are confident about their future and are adamant they will move into a redeveloped St Helen's on time. In an announcement on the club's website Ospreys CEO Lance Bradley says he is confident of a "positive outcome" despite the Welsh Rugby Union seriously considering cutting the number of professional clubs from four to three - or even two. The WRU recently announced they plan to radically change the structure of the professional game in time for the 2027/28 season at the latest . A consultation period with key stakeholders will begin in a couple of weeks, with the new structure set to get announced in October. There have been many rumours circulating on whether Swansea Council will release funds to redevelop St Helen's given there is no guarantee the Ospreys will even exist in a couple of years' time. "I am obviously aware there is a considerable level of uncertainty and concern about the situation with the WRU, especially following their recent announcement about another review into the game," said Bradley. "I can't give much of an update on that, other than we are part of that review and we are very much talking to the WRU. I still remain very positive about a good outcome for us. "We've published what our plans are for the site. "Planning permission is in and we've not had any significant objections to any of those plans. "It looks like we will hopefully be getting planning permission in August and once we get that planning permission we'll be able to start building the stadium as we'd planned." The Ospreys have left the Swansea.com Stadium and have submitted a planning application to redevelop St Helen's. "The future model for regional rugby is still under discussion with the regions and the WRU," said Stewart. "As was outlined in the report to Cabinet Dec 2024 the Council remain supportive of the proposal to relocate the Ospreys into St Helen's however any final agreement will remain dependant on assurances from the WRU." Bradley also announced a pre-season fixture against Exeter Chiefs at the Brewery Field in Bridgend on Saturday, September 6, but venue of the Ospreys' first United Rugby Championship clash of the season against Zebre on October 11 has yet to be announced. The chief also announced when season tickets would go on sale (August 12) and when their new home kit would be available (September 5). The Ospreys plan to be in a redeveloped St Helen's by December at the latest. "There's already been some work taking place," said Bradley. "Some surveys have been done and a lot of planning has been done. "You don't necessarily see that but there's already been a lot of work done here. "In terms of spades in the ground that you'll see it was always the plan that it wouldn't start until the cricket club had finished in September. "That remains the plan so I'm aware that people are saying 'oh I haven't seen anything happening'. "There's been a huge amount happening behind the scenes and you'll start to see the work on the pitch, the work on installing the stands and the other work that's going on around the place you'll start to see that in September."
