Out Or Not Out? Akash Deep's Dismissal Of Joe Root Sparks No Ball Drama - Here’s What The Rule Says
@Source: timesnownews.com
In the second innings of the Edgbaston Test, India's bowler Akash Deep, who entered the team after the management decided to rest Jasprit Bumrah, unleashed some incredible rippers. On Day 4, Akash took two of the three England wickets for a total of 72 runs at the stumps. Both of Akash's scalps were actually bowled, and the cricket world was left in disbelief by his peach of a delivery to Joe Root. A batter of Joe Roo's calibre is rarely undone by a pacer. However, the England veteran could not play the oncoming delivery from Akash at all. However, following the firing, some controversy was sparked. Even though Root was ruled out by the umpire, several commentators and fans on social media have referred to Akash's delivery as 'illegal' "The delivery from Akash Deep - which we said was wide off the crease - his foot on the back crease is out. Looks like by about two inches. Maybe a little bit more. But comfortably. So his back foot, which needs to land within the line, just taps about two inches over the line. Not picked up," Former England cricketer Alison Mitchell said while doing commentary on BBC TMS. Akash has been accused of touching the return crease with his backfoot, even though his foot was unquestionably inside the popping crease. As a result, some supporters are angry at the officials for failing to notice the occurrence. What Does The Rule States"For a delivery to be fair in respect of the feet, in the delivery stride (21.5.1) the bowler's back foot must land within and not touch the return crease appertaining to his/her stated mode of delivery. (21.5.2) the bowler's front foot must land with some part of the foot, whether grounded or raised - on the same side of the imaginary line joining the two middle stumps as the return crease described in 21.5.1, and - behind the popping crease," Says the MCC Law 21.5.1. In the commentary box, former India coach Ravi Shastri said the delivery was fair since Akash's foot went within the return crease. Root's performance in the Birmingham Test was forgettable. He faced 46 balls and only contributed 22 runs to the team's total in the first innings. He was only able to score six more runs in the second inning.
