Outrage as influencer-flation 'ruins Coachella' after influx of the rich and famous READ MORE: Kylie Jenner's burning new desire left Timothee Chalamet in shock By SOPHIE GABLE FOR DAILYMAIL.COM Published: 03:25 BST, 20 April 2025 | Updated: 03:28 BST, 20 April 2025 Coachella has been branded a haven for the 'wealthy' amid skyrocketing prices, influencer takeovers and accommodation costing punters thousands. A sense of unattainable luxury has swept over the festival's reputation, with well-known content creators like Alix Earle posting a travel vlog sipping champagne on a private flight with her friends. Charli D'Amelio also attended the popular event, posting a photo with a lace top that appeared to be from Chloe and is priced at $1,690 while Kylie Jenner roamed the crowd with her actor boyfriend Timothée Chalamet during Charli XCX's performance. Kendall Jenner hosted a tent at the festival to promote her 818 tequila brand. She was pictured at the festival in a butter dress next to her fellow celebrity bestie, Hailey Bieber. The overwhelming presence of well-known trendsetters has made the festival appear to not be about the music but an out of reach fashion parade with a huge buy in as organizers are criticized for being out of touch. The demand for the event was so high this year that general admission tickets for the first weekend started at $649 while the second weekend kicked off at $599. Attendees had to pay at least another $100 for access to the shuttle, while VIP prices started at $1,399 for weekend one. The prices only included entry, and attendees have been forced to grapple with astronomical prices for food, lodging, and travel. Alix Earle, one of Gen Z's most prominent online influencers, documented her time at Coachella from flying in a private plane to showing off her outfits Charli D'Amelio also attended the event and was pictured in a lace top that is speculated to cost over $1,000 Kendall Jenner hosted an event at Coachella to promote her tequila brand. She wore a butter yellow dress and invited influencers to taste the 818 alcohol The festival has caused outrage on social media, with some even declaring that the event was ruined altogether. 'Influencer culture has really ruined events like Coachella where the art and music has taken a back seat. I hope that doesn't happen in the theme park industry where a picture of you being there is more important than...well...*being* there,' one tweet read on X. 'Coachella is now just a backdrop for influencers. A place to be seen going to,' another tweet read. Even comedian and musician Reggie Watts said that 'the soul feels increasingly absent' at Coachella. 'There’s no real sense of love coming from the festival toward the people. No care. No reverence. Just vibes curated for influencer culture,' he added in a post on social media. The scale and expense of Coachella has deterred some who can't afford it from attending, and those who can purchase a ticket are met with additional costs every step of the way. Kylie Jenner also attended the music event and promoted new sprinter flavors on her Instagram Coachella has long been regarded as one of the most iconic music festivals, but the astronomical prices this year have resulted in significant backlash Tickets for the festival started at $649, which doesn't include parking, lodging, or food Influencers were slammed online for their lavish spending at Coachella, including extravagant tent set-ups and $1,000 meals Luxury camping Those who opt to camp in their cars have to pay an additional $160 for a site in the parking lot. But influencers who are lucky enough to be camping on-site have taken their dwellings to the next level, with one Coachella attendee sharing his 'elevated' set up, which featured a 'classic vintage camping site.' Jerry Maestas (@jerry__anthony) shared a video on TikTok setting up his campsite, beginning with a massive white canopy. He even brought a folding table with a tablecloth, a rug from home, and a huge blow-up mattress. Jerry added that as much as he wanted a 'vintage cooler,' he couldn't find one in time, but still brought a standard cooler, and multiple director's chairs for seating. He even brought some knick-knacks to decorate his canopy to create a 'classic, Coachella cowboy vintage' aesthetic. Glamorous Coachella-bound beauty queen is deported while trying to travel to festival The video has amassed over 1.5 million likes, and many commenters weren't shy about their thoughts on the extravagant campsite. 'Coachella is the Olympics for influencers,' one comment wrote. 'The idea of bringing props to festival camping is actually insane ya'll are way too confident that only rich people go to this and no one will rob you,' another pointed out. 'TikTok really brings out the snob in people. You are at a festival mate just enjoy yourself and sleep like your at a festival not a five start company camping retreat,' a third added. Jerry replied to the comment, firing back, 'I did enjoy myself and very much slept like everybody else around me. This is a very average Coachella set up. just say you’ve never been to Coachella before.' Another TikToker, Ian Smith, stitched Jerry's video writing, 'The wealthy really have ruined everything cool.' Ian claimed that Jerry was 'cosplaying' as middle class and slammed the influencer for decorating his lavish camp site with a 'classic, Coachella cowboy vintage' aesthetic. Jerry Maestas was slammed online after he posted his lavish campsite at Coachella Jerry said he embraced a 'classic, Coachella cowboy vintage' aesthetic for his tent, which prompted some TikTok users to claim that the wealthy have 'ruined everything cool' Flying to avoid traffic The price gouging doesn't stop when attendees arrive at the festival, as some attendees have decided to pay hundreds to avoid traffic to the event. Wealthy attendees spent an extra $200 to $800 for elevated travel options, including flying on a semi-private airline to skip the gridlock and road delays. The airline, JSX, introduced premium flight options to Coachella, including one ticket from Burbank, California, to Jacqueline Cochran Regional Airport. The flight is under an hour and gets festival goers seven miles from the grounds, if they're willing to pay for a $500 one-way ticket. The high prices may be captivating, as long lines to get into the festival felt endless for some attendees. One festival goer shared on X that they showed up at 2am to get in line and, after 12 hours, still hadn't passed through the security check. They added that there were no porta-potties in sight and had to 'pee on the side of the roads.' Another attendee demanded in the official Coachella Reddit thread that car campers deserved a refund. 'We've waiting nine hours to get inside this festival. No bathroom, no food. Likely won't be returning,' they wrote. Many commenters shared similar experiences, blasting Coachella for the long wait times and claiming the experience was 'chaos.' Some Coachella attendees shared online that they waited for hours to get into the festival and didn't have access to bathrooms Spending $1,000 on a plate of food The wealth haven continues at the event, as food prices can be up to $350 per plate. Nobu, the popular upscale sushi chain, hosted a pop-up restaurant on the festival grounds with an Omasake-style menu. Diners fork over a flat $350 per person and receive multiple courses of sushi that are pre-selected by the chef. One influencer, Adelaine Morin, revealed that her bill after dining at the restaurant totaled up to $1,000 for her and her friend. In addition to their two $350 plates, they also purchased Red Bulls, sake, and left a 22 percent gratuity. They were only given a 50-minute time slot to finish their meals and were given a takeaway Bento Box if they showed up late. Adelaine Morin took to TikTok to share a video showcasing her meal at a pop-up Nobu eatery during the iconic event and it sparked immense backlash An influencer has been slammed for her 'tone deaf' meal choice at Coachella , after she revealed that she and a friend enjoyed a $1,000 lunch at the music festival Morin shared her experience in several TikToks, which prompted a slew of hate comments criticizing the influencer for gluttony. 'I feel like i’m in the hunger games or something,' one comment read. 'Influencers are insufferable these days,' another slammed. 'Consumerism final boss,' a third added. The prices of tickets, food, and lodging have forced attendees to fork over thousands of dollars just to attend the three-day music festival. Influencers have also infiltrated the festival after receiving invitations from brands like White Fox, 818, and Rhode Cosmetics.
