MINNA – Over 250 lady golfers from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja have converged in Minna, Niger State capital for the year 2025 Northern zonal Golf championship. President of the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN), Evelyn Oyome, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Minna on Wednesday as part of activities for the opening ceremony of the 2025, Northern Zonal Golf championship. Evelyn who further hinted that by November this year, about 26 African countries are expected in Nigeria to compete for the All Africa Golf Challenge Trophy to take place at the IBB Golf Club, Abuja. While appealing to the federal government through the National Sports Commission (NSC) to do all it can to ensure successful hosting of the challenge, Oyome appealed to the federal government to reinstate golf as an event in National Sports Festivals (NSF). “Golf has not been introduced to the next Olympics”, adding that the trend is not onkuaffecting the growth and development of the game. The 1st Vice President, LGAN, Lami Onayi Ahmed had earlier said that the event which started on Wednesday 18th is expected to end on Saturday 21st will be played over 54 holes by the 250 players. “We choose Minna because we want to spread the tournament to every part of the North and to encourage more women participation”. The championship, according to Lami is a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) standard which will feature Amateur Ladies while men will participate as guest players.
