Firefighting crews worked through the night in Asprochori to stop the blaze from reaching residential areas, which have remained undamaged. Aircraft resumed operations at first light on Thursday, helping to contain lingering hotspots.
On Thassos, the fire broke out late Wednesday in Glykadi, near the island’s main port. While the cause remains unknown, a rapid response by ground teams and aircraft prevented the fire from threatening homes.
A total of 55 firefighters, supported by local volunteers, vehicles, and equipment, were deployed in the firefighting effort.
