Roadwork on a busy stretch of Kapiolani Boulevard begins tonight, according to city officials, and will result in overnight lane closures for several months.
The work is scheduled to take place from 7:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. Monday to Thursday — on Kapiolani from Harding Avenue to Atkinson Drive. The work is expected to be done by November.
Officials said this is the final phase of the Kapiolani Boulevard street rehabilitation project, which had been previously delayed due to a gas line relocation. Crews will install new permanent pavement markings, roadway striping and contraflow lane bases.
The lane closures will be done in segments to facilitate construction and traffic flow.
Officials said “No Parking” signs will be posted along the roadway a week in advance to notify the public of upcoming construction activity. Drivers are asked to observe posted dates and times, as vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.
The contractor, Road Builders Corporation, will be responsible for coordinating and managing local area traffic for businesses and residents. The public is advised to use caution when traveling through the construction zone, to anticipate delays, and allow for extra travel time.
