'Owe It To BCCI And Jay Bhai': UAE Cricket Board Official On PSL Hosting Snub
@Source: news18.com
When India and Pakistan were engaged in military tensions in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attacks. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had requested UAE’s Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) relocating the Pakistan Super League (PSL) to the United Arab Emirates. But a report by Cricbuzz suggests that a slight push from Indian cricket administrators ensured that the PCB’s request was declined. “When soldiers are dying at the border, we cannot keep quiet,” an unnamed cricket official was quoted as saying. The report claims that the UAE board’s higher-ups and their relationship with the former BCCI secretary, who is now the current chairman of the International Cricket Council, Jay Shah, is likely to have played a part in this decision. “We owe it to the BCCI and Jay Bhai,” an ECB official told, acknowledging the Indian role in the matter. The PCB had announced that the remaining games in the PSL were to be held in Dubai, but had to withdraw this announcement and mention that the tournament would be postponed. It is suggested that the foreign players who were taking part were not willing to continue amidst the conflict. A report in ‘The Telegraph’ said English players, who have signed up for the league, are “split on whether to remain in Pakistan and play cricket”. “The England and Wales Cricket Board and Professional Cricketers Association held an emergency call on Wednesday morning to discuss the situation. At this stage, players are not being advised to come home,” it added. “While most players are currently intending to remain in Pakistan, Telegraph Sport understands several are exploring their options and could return home.” Seven English players — James Vince, Tom Curran, Sam Billings, Chris Jordan, David Willey, Luke Wood and Tom Kohler-Cadmore — are playing in this year’s PSL. England coaches Ravi Bopara and Alexandra Hartley are also involved in the ongoing league. Other high-profile stars competing in the PSL are David Warner (Karachi Kings), Jason Holder (Islamabad United), and Rassie van der Dussen (Islamabad United), among others.
