Pacific Beach Love Story: Couple’s romance starts with her friend’s dating app swipe
@Source: sandiegouniontribune.com
It all started when my friend swiped right on a cute boy on Hinge — using my account. My fellow single friend and I had spent the evening sipping wine and sharing increasingly horrendous online dating stories. Eventually, we swapped phones and told each other to swipe at will. Our own dating habits hadn’t got us anywhere, so we thought we might as well try something different. One of my friend’s catfish victims bit, and they began a trash-talking battle over who would eat whose dust when roller blading. Unfortunately for me, I inherited this conversation and showed up to our first date wearing knee pads and elbow pads and eating “my” own words. Jack was tall, handsome and extroverted. He guided me all over Mission Bay and the Mission Beach area, helping me stop when I started barreling towards a busy intersection with no clue how to slow myself down. After a fun, comfortable date with a man who made me laugh and asked thoughtful questions, Jack told me he would be moving to Arizona for work in two months. As you might expect, my attempt not to fall in love with him before he moved away failed miserably. After five dates in three weeks, I was head over heels. With an expiration date coming up, we fast-tracked our summer fling and went on a weekend trip in Mammoth to spend more quality time together. It was here that we shared with each other that we weren’t ready for our relationship to end. Within another two weeks, we had said “I love you,” begun dating and a long-distance relationship. Even though it’s been fast and unconventional, we both just knew that we had found our forever. This summer, one year later, we’ll be reunited and living together.
