Packers Lose Vote for Eagles' 'Tush Push' Play to be Banned in 2025

The NFL owners have voted on multiple league-changing matters before the start of the 2025 season. Such as, altering the onside kick, and allowing NFL players to participate in the upcoming 2026 Olympics for Flag Football.Read more: NFL Vote to Allow Players to Play in Olympics Flag Football Passes UnanimouslyNow, they have gathered to vote on the famous "Tush Push" play that has been perfected by the Philadelphia Eagles.The play is essentially a quarterback sneak, but the entire team pushes the ball carrier to either gain a first down or for a touchdown.Though the play has never resulted in injury, the Green Bay Packers made it a point to propose that the play be banned. The owners of the league have now voted on the matter, and the vote did not pass which would prevent the Eagles from using their signature play in the 2025 season.The Eagles can remain using the "Tush Push" play through the 2025 season. According to Adam Schefter, 24 owners were needed to push the ban through. He revealed that the vote ended with a 22-10 tally, effectively keeping the play alive for the upcoming season.Philadelphia has one of the best social media pages in the league, and they perfectly responded to the news with a simple graphic that says, "push on."More news: Chargers Named Best Fit for $84 Million Pro Bowl Defender in Blockbuster TradeThe concern with the play was that using it could result in bodily injury to the multitude of offensive linemen and other players being pushed by hundreds of pounds of weight. However, there hasn't been any indication that players getting hurt stemmed from the play.There has been numerous players that have spoken on the "Tush Push" play being banned, including former Eagles star Jason Kelce. Kelce arrived at the owner's meeting to speak his piece on the matter, which could have gone a long way to sway mutluiple owners that the play should not be removed.The NFL always takes rule changes into account during every annual owners meeting. They discuss rules that are meant to make the game safer for all players. It appears that most of the owners in the meeting did not view the "Tush Push" play as being dangerous enough to warrant its removal.There could be an instance where the Packers come back with a further altered look at the language for the "Tush Push," but the play is unlikely to be banned until the next owners' meeting in 2026.For now, Eagles players and fans can rest easy, as their signature play will remain alive.For more on the NFL, head to Newsweek Sports.
