'Pakistan Cricket Would Lose...': Inzamam Reacts To Hafeez's '90s Cricketers' Jibe

Former Pakistan cricketer Inzamam ul Haq has said that the country’s cricket would have lost its strength without the contribution of the 90s cricketers, refuting Mohammad Hafeez’s comment that they didn’t leave any legacy behind.
During the Champions Trophy, Hafeez took a jibe at the cricketers who played in the 1990s, saying that they couldn’t win a World Cup for Pakistan.
During a press meeting in Lahore, Inzamam was asked about Hafeez’s statement and he did not mince his words when calling out the latter.
“If we look at the players from the 90s generation, Pakistan cricket would lose its strength without them. If you look at players who have won something after the 90s, they are also from the 90s batch,” Inzamam said.
“The performers were from the 90s. The era of the 90s has given us a lot. No one should come up with statements like this. I don’t know what he said exactly. Everyone knows what the 90s cricketers have done for the country,” Inzamam added.
Inzamam also expressed his concern over the constant decline in his country’s cricket and attributed it to the mistakes made by those running the game in the nation.
Inzamam told the media in Lahore that there had been a fast decline in the performance of the national side in the last two years.
“We are not working in the right direction and making the wrong calls in many areas. I would think that the cricket board now needs to learn from its mistakes and not repeat the same mistakes we have made in the last two years,” Inzamam said.
“In the past two years, the performance of the Pakistan team has been on a decline. If we don’t work in the right direction, we will continue to fall further,” Inzamam added.
Pakistan cricket has seen an unreal decline over the past three years. Since finishing as runners-up in the 2022 T20 World Cup, their performance in ICC tournaments has been dismal.
Pakistan finished just outside the top four in the 2023 ODI World Cup, winning just four of their nine league-stage games. At the T20 World Cup last year, just seven months after the ODI World Cup disappointment, Pakistan lost their group stage matches to the USA and India and couldn’t even qualify for the Super 8 stage.
