Pakistan takes over as Asian Cricket Council head, Naqvi as president

LAHORE: Pakistan has officially taken over the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) from Sri Lanka Cricket. Effective immediately, Pakistan will lead the ACC in its mission to promote and expand the sport across the continent.
The transition marks a new era for the ACC, with Mohsin Naqvi, the current chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), assuming charge as the new ACC president. According to an official press release, Naqvi’s appointment became effective on April 3.

Expressing his gratitude, Mohsin Naqvi described his new role as a tremendous honour and pledged to take Asian cricket to greater heights.
“Asia remains the heartbeat of world cricket, and I am committed to working with all member boards to accelerate the game’s growth and global influence. Together, we will unlock new opportunities, foster greater collaboration, and elevate Asian cricket to unprecedented levels,” Naqvi stated.
He also extended his appreciation to the outgoing ACC president, Shammi Silva, for his leadership and contributions.

Outgoing ACC President Shammi Silva reflected on his tenure, highlighting key achievements under his leadership, including securing record-breaking commercial rights for the Asia Cup and introducing a new pathway structure for emerging teams.
“It has been a privilege to serve as President of the Asian Cricket Council. The steadfast commitment of our member boards has been instrumental in elevating the ACC’s stature across the region,” Silva remarked.
He also acknowledged his predecessor, Jay Shah, for laying a strong foundation for the ACC’s continued success.
