Pant Accepts LSG 'Had Chances To Make IPL 2025 Playoffs But Didn't Capitalise'

Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant admitted that although his team showed promise at various stages of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, their inability to capitalise on their chances ultimately led to their early exit from the playoffs race. LSG’s campaign was marked by inconsistency and narrow losses that disrupted their momentum. “We talk about playing good cricket, and we’ve shown on occasion that we can do that. There were times in the tournament when we had our chances to make the playoffs but didn’t capitalise. It’s part and parcel of the game,” Pant said after LSG’s 33-run win over Gujarat Titans on Thursday. LSG began the tournament without the services of Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and Mayank Yadav. While Shardul Thakur was signed mid-season and Avesh and Akash made returns, Mayank featured in just two games before being ruled out again. “Coming into the tournament, there were a lot of injury concerns. We made sure it’s something we wouldn’t talk about. “The whole batting unit has played, but we lacked a bit on the fielding side. We can’t make excuses; we just want to learn and move on.” ALSO READ | Nicholas Pooran Creates History, Becomes 1st Cricketer In The World To… Against table-toppers Gujarat Titans, however, LSG produced a complete performance. Mitchell Marsh struck his maiden IPL century, while Nicholas Pooran hit his fifth half-ton this season as Lucknow Super Giants registered a consolation 33-run win over Gujarat Titans in an Indian Premier League match here on Thursday. LSG have already been eliminated from the tournament, while GT were through to playoffs even before Thursday’s match. Sent in to bat, LSG rode on Marsh and Pooran’s whirlwind knocks to post a massive 235 for 2. Marsh scored 117 off 64 balls, studded with 10 boundaries and 8 sixes, while Pooran made a blazing 56 not out off 27 deliveries as the duo shared a 121-run stand for the second wicket. Marsh was especially harsh on GT spinner Rashid Khan in the 12th over, milking him for 25 runs, including two sixes and three boundaries, as the Australian reached the 100-run mark off 56 balls. Earlier, Marsh also shared a 91-run opening-wicket stand with Aiden Markram (36). “It was always about getting their top three out early. The way Shahrukh played gave them some hope, but we knew the target was above par. Credit to our bowlers — they held their nerves well,” Pant concluded. (With inputs from PTI)
