'Pant's Injury Is Real Shame But...': Ex-ENG Pacer Not In Favour Of Injury Substitutes

Former England fast bowler Steven Finn, who has now donned the hat of an expert and commentator, is not in favour of injury substitutes in Test cricket. According to Finn, who played 36 Tests, 69 ODIs, and 21 T20Is for the Three Lions from 2010 to 2017, there’s a reason why a Test match is played for five days. He feels that it won’t be fair to the substitute player. “There should not be injury substitutes in test cricket. The game is played over 5 days for a reason. (Some) teams bat long in order to wear a bowling unit down. If you could substitute a fresh bowler in because of injury, it would just be wrong. Also, how on earth do you determine what an injury is? MRI scanners at every ground to check a muscle tear? Pants’ injury is a real shame, and the match will be less rich with him not taking part. But it’s part of the game, unfortunately,” Finn tweeted on Thursday. The debate of having injury replacements in Test cricket gathered pace on Wednesday after India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant suffered a foot injury while trying to play a reverse sweep shot. Due to injury, Pant is reportedly set to remain out of action for at least six weeks. Pant injury is a real shame for the ongoing series. The 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batter was in red-hot form with the bat in the 2025 edition of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. With the help of two centuries and two fifties, he scored 425 runs in the first three matches.
