@Source: dailystar.co.uk
A tragic accident unfolded over the weekend as a man lost his life while paragliding at a popular tourist spot in Tenerife. The unfortunate event took place on Saturday, May 31, around 3.28pm at the natural pools of Puerto de la Cruz. Emergency services including firefighters, maritime rescue, and both local and national police were quick to respond, with a rescue helicopter also dispatched to the scene. The Emergency and Security Coordination Centre was alerted by a lifeguard who reported a paraglider plummeting into the water. Maritime Rescue attempted to retrieve the paraglider using a jet ski, but the equipment ended up adrift. Local police officers were first on the scene, initiating resuscitation efforts until the arrival of the GES helicopter, as per the official incident report. The victim was eventually rescued by the General Emergency Medical Services (GES), assisted by firefighters, and was transported to the esplanade of Puerto de la Cruz pier. Here, medical staff continued with basic and advanced resuscitation techniques, reports the Mirror . Regrettably, despite their best efforts, the unidentified man succumbed to his injuries. The Civil Guard is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death. Puerto de la Cruz boasts several natural pools and bathing spots, with Lago Martiánez being the most notable, holding 27,000 cubic meters of water. This tourist hotspot consists of seven artificial sea water pools and a large lake, complemented by an entertainment and leisure area featuring restaurants, gardens, cultural spaces, solariums, terraces and more. The seawater pool complex provides a unique swimming experience, offering breathtaking ocean views and beautiful gardens. Other natural pools and bathing areas in the vicinity include San Telmo and Playa Martiánez. This comes following the tragic death of a four year old boy who encountered difficulties while swimming in a hotel pool in Tenerife. The heartbreaking incident occurred on Thursday, May 22, in Golf del Sur in southern Tenerife. Local reports suggest the boy suffered a cardiac arrest due to swallowing a significant amount of water while swimming. Just before 5pm local time, the boy was rescued from the pool, as reported by the Canary Islands Emergency Coordination Centre (CECOES). The alarm was sounded when the young lad was pulled from the pool by the hotel lifeguard and found to be unresponsive. Emergency services were summoned and a nurse provided assistance via the emergency call centre. Regrettably, they confirmed that the boy was in cardiac arrest and gave instructions over the phone to locate a defibrillator and commence CPR immediately. Two advanced life support ambulances and a medical helicopter were rushed to the hotel. Despite the emergency crew's best efforts in continuing advanced resuscitation attempts upon arrival, the child was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
