Paramedic Detained by Israel Has Emotional Reunion With Colleagues After Release
@Source: yahoo.com
A Palestinian paramedic detained by Israeli forces in March was among one of several people released on Tuesday, April 29, according to Palestinian news reports.
The paramedic, Asaad Al-Nasasrah, was arrested on March 23 while on duty during an attack that killed eight other paramedics in the Tal al-Sultan area of the Rafah governorate, according to the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS).
The PRCS said on March 30 that it had recovered the bodies of the eight medics who had gone missing after leaving for a mission in Rafah. In mid-April, the PRCS said it had been informed by the International Committee of the Red Cross that Al-Nasasrah was being held by Israeli authorities, and called on the international community to advocate for his release.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it had fired on “suspicious vehicles” in Rafah, but “after an initial inquiry, it was determined that some of the suspicious vehicles … were ambulances and fire trucks,” according to a statement provided to the AFP in late March. The IDF condemned the “repeated use” of ambulances for “terrorist purposes,” AFP reported.
