The parents of a two-year-old who doesn't recognise his parents are fundraising for a stroller that would change their lives. Dean and Sharon Hillman, who hail from Oldbury and Birmingham , discovered their son Mason had complex needs when he reached six months. Mason, who will turn three later this year, has intellectual disability and is developmentally-delayed, non-verbal, and has no awareness of danger or his surroundings. His loving mum and dad, now living in Rugby, Warwickshire , said they were unable to enjoy family days out due to fears for their son's safety. "We noticed he had complex needs from around six months," 33-year-old Dean told BirminghamLive. "We had to hold him until he fell asleep because he would bang his head against the cot. He had started to say words but then, at around ten months, that stopped completely." "Standard prams don’t work," said Shannon, 30, who with Dean has launched a GoFundMe page to raise money for a specialised stroller. "As a result, we’ve been unable to enjoy simple things like family days out, or even comfortably get him to medical appointments." The couple are trying to raise enough money to buy a 'Racer Evo Special Needs Stroller' which has pads for head protection but costs £2,800. Shannon, originally from Bartley Green, said: "This stroller would be life-changing. "It would mean we can go on family outings again - including with his big sister - attend medical appointments with more ease, and give Mason a safer way to experience the world around him. "It is built to handle his strength and designed with the proper hardness for his mobility needs." Dean said Mason is a "happy lovely lad" who loves being in the car with the window open and enjoyed when the family previously were able to attend a bike show. "He was very excited," said Dean. "Mason has a love for music and has started jigging to the Jonas Brothers. "Any donation, no matter how small, would mean the absolute world to us." The family has managed to raise just over £420 so far. Click here to donate if you would like to help the family reach their goal
