The Pacific Animal Shelter and Hospital (PASH) an animal rescue shelter based in Nadi; has revealed its expansion plans. This includes the construction of a dedicated boarding facility, which will feature dog and cat boarding services for pet owners who need safe, high-quality care for their animals while traveling. PASH Trustee Renita Reddy said it will also include a doggy daycare centre, which will provide socialisation and exercise for dogs in a safe and controlled environment. Additionally, a pet grooming centre will offer services that will generate additional income to support our rescue and desexing initiatives. “To make this project a reality, we need to reach $100,000 in funding. Every contribution brings us one step closer to making this vision a reality and expanding our ability to care for Fiji’s animals,” she said. “This expansion will allow PASH to increase our capacity to help more animals, while also providing valuable services to local pet owners and visitors.” She said its mission is simple but ambitious: to improve the welfare of animals in Fiji by providing medical care, rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming services. “To support our shelter operations, we run a veterinary clinic, offering essential pet care services to the community. “The revenue generated from the clinic helps fund our rescue efforts and free community desexing programmes.” Second Annual Golf Fundraiser: A Step Towards Expansion To support its expansion plans, PASH hosted its second annual golf fundraiser at The Denarau Golf & Racquet Club on February 8. “Thanks to the generosity of our incredible donors and supporters, we raised $30,000! These funds will go directly towards our goal of expanding our facilities to create additional revenue streams that will sustain our free community desexing efforts.” She thanked its premium sponsors General Machinery, BSP, Longrun (Fiji), Victoria Wines, and Microhire for their generous support in making this event a success. Urgent Need for Spay and Neuter Programmes in Fiji Reports indicate that there may be as many as 200,000 stray animals in Fiji, a staggering number that continues to grow due to uncontrolled breeding. “The overpopulation of stray dogs and cats leads to immense suffering—animals struggling to find food, suffering from disease, and often facing abuse. Many tourists visiting Fiji reach out to us with concerns, heartbroken by the state of stray animals they encounter during their holidays,” she said. Recognising that desexing is the most effective way to reduce the number of strays, PASH has made spay and neuter programmes our top priority. “By preventing unwanted litters, we can break the cycle of suffering and significantly reduce the stray animal population over time. “To make this possible, we need to expand our operations and generate sustainable funding to offer Free desexing clinics to communities in need,” she said. How You Can Help Please donate today and help them make a difference in the lives of Fiji’s animals! Feedback: waisean@fijisun.com.fj
