Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets on Friday in the IPL 2025 match played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. SRH’s five-wicket win over the MS Dhoni-led side in the 43rd league match of IPL 2025 helped Pat Cummins enter his name in the history books. The 31-year-old cricketer from Australia becomes the first captain to win an IPL match for Sunrisers Hyderabad against CSK at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. SRH played five IPL matches against CSK at Chepauk before Friday’s fixture but never managed to win. In the ongoing season of the IPL, CSK have lost an IPL match against RCB at Chepauk after 17 years, against Delhi Capitals after 15 years and now for the first time ever against SRH. The win over CSK in Chennai was SRH’s third win of the ongoing IPL 2025 season, and with 6 points from nine matches, the Hyderabad-based franchise rise to 8th position in the points table. If SRH manage to win their remaining five league matches by a big margin, then they will have a chance to finish in the top four and qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs. Kamindu and Harshal shine Sri Lankan all-rounder Kamindu Mendis and Indian pacer Harshal Patel played a big role in CSK’s five-wicket win on Friday. While Harshal finished with figures of 4 for 28 in four overs, Mendis remained unbeaten on 32 runs from 22 balls and also picked up one wicket for 26 runs in three overs in addition to taking a brilliant catch of Dewald Brevis, who, on his IPL debut for CSK, top-scored for the MS Dhoni-led side. For the last edition’s losing finalists, Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat also dismissed two CSK batters each on Friday at Chepauk, and one batter – Shaik Rasheed – was sent back to the pavilion on the first ball of the match by Mohammed Shami. In the batting, wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan scored 44 runs from 34 balls, but Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen failed to do much with the bat. While Abhishek got out for a two-ball duck, Head made 19 runs from 16 balls with the help of four fours, and Ravindra Jadeja removed Klaasen for 7 runs from eight balls.
