Patchy Mix choked out James Gallagher in front of Irish crowd
Before becoming the Bellator bantamweight champion, the 31-year-old had to pick up several impressive wins before being offered his chance to fight for the title.
And one of his most impressive came in enemy territory when he took on McGregor’s training partner, James Gallagher, in Dublin at Bellator 270.
For several years, Gallagher was being labeled as ‘the next Conor McGregor’, not only because of his ties to ‘The Notorious’, but because of his fight style and eccentric personality.
After four impressive wins in a row, ‘The Strabanimal’ was given a fight against Mix at Bellator 270 in Dublin in 2021. A win for Gallagher would’ve likely seen him go on to challenge for the title.
However, Mix came into enemy territory and pulled off the upset win when he choked out Gallagher in the third round in front of his Irish fans.
The first two rounds were extremely closely contested and in round two, Gallagher had Mix in a guillotine of his own, almost causing a tap.
Despite that, less than a minute into the final round, Mix jumped a guillotine on Gallagher, subsequently dragging him to the ground and choking him out as the Irish fans booed him.
