The Seventh-day Adventists are walking the talk in teaching their children ages 10 and above about survival skills, first aid skills, traditional protocols and so forth.

Known as Pathfinders, more than 500 members were out at Suva’s Albert Park yesterday for the Central and Eastern SDA Pathfinder Fair where they showcased the skills and talents they had learnt over the years.

The same gathering was held around the country including members on Vanua Levu.

Event organiser Marika Yalimaiwai said the aim of the program was for the holistic development of children.

“Our program today features the children coming from all these communities across the central and eastern region to come and demonstrate what they’ve been learning in regard to basic life skills, essential survival skills, technical know-hows in terms of traditional protocols,” Mr Yalimaiwai said.

“For example, the administering of first aid in situations that they might encounter, we have survival skills that are being assessed.

“So, the Pathfinder Fare program is like a program where the communities come to showcase what they’ve been learning as a benchmark so that they can continue to improve, year in and year out.”

He said the fare was also to prepare the children for the end of the year camp which would be happening in Vanua Levu.

“While the kids are learning in their communities, this is a platform where they can all come together and showcase what they’ve been learning so that they can be better at it.”
