Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler were the two rightful favorites to win The Masters coming into the week, but there is still a very talented pack of players behind them who are more than capable of making noise. One of those players is Patrick Cantlay. The American has had an up-and-down season, but he did finish T-5 at The Genesis Invitational, so he has proven that he can contend.Cantlay was hanging around on Thursday afternoon and stepped to the 15th tee with a score of 1-under-par. That wasn't making shockwaves by any means, but he was doing enough to stay near the top of the leaderboard before it all came crashing down.Like many others, Cantlay crushed his second shot on the par-5 over the back of the back-to-front green, setting up a tricky third shot. He got a little bit too much of the third, and his ball rolled off the front of the green and into the water.Cantlay got to set up for his fifth shot from the same spot, but he didn't learn from his previous mistake. He tried to change up his shot selection, going for a higher pitch, but found the same fate as his ball trickled into the drink once again.Cantlay ended up making a triple-bogey eight, dropping his score to 2-over. He did recover, making a trio of pars to get into the clubhouse with a 74.Despite the nice bounce-back, fans still didn't hesitate to clown him for the snowman on 15.Cantlay is by no means out of it at 2-over and should still be in the mix to make the cut on Friday, but the blowup certainly puts a sour stain on what was an otherwise solid round.More Golf: Scottie Scheffler Flawless Stat at Masters Spells Doom for the Field
