Patrick Mahomes Surprises College Student Who Made 94-Foot Putt at Game with Free Tuition

Blake Porter has a fan in Patrick Mahomes!
The Texas Tech student, who sunk a 94-foot putt during a commercial time-out at the Tech-Houston basketball game on Monday and then chest-bumped the three-time Super Bowl MVP, tried to recreate his masterful moment while on the Today show on Thursday, Feb. 27.
And although the Lubbock, Texas, native couldn’t make the putt while outside on plaza, the show’s hosts had a surprise for him anyway — by having the Kansas City Chiefs star appear in a pre-taped segment with some exciting news.
“What’s up, Blake?” Mahomes, 29, said. “What an awesome moment it was the other night. I was so excited to be a small part of it. And I know you think you know what you won, but what you don’t know is that Texas Tech Athletics is going to be paying your tuition next fall.”
The quarterback added that he and his sponsor Adidas would be making Porter “an honorary member of Team Mahomes,” and that they'd be sending a “nice care package” to help the student with his golf game.
“Oh my gosh, oh my gosh. Thanks guys,” Porter said, as his mother – who was visibly emotional — and girlfriend stepped into the shot to celebrate.
Before the big reveal, Porter shared a bit of the backstory about how he ended up participating in the promotion.

Despite showing up at United Supermarkets Arena at around 5 p.m. and relatively late for the game, Porter said he was asked if he wanted to go down on the court and try to make a putt.
And while he claimed to co-hosts Savannah Guthrie, Craig Melvin and Carson Daly that he is a “double bogey golfer at best,” Porter assuredly made the epic putt.
After the ball went into the hole, Porter had one thing on his mind.
“I just was like, ‘I really want to celebrate, I like to chest-bump people, there’s Patrick Mahomes,’ ” he recalled. “I didn’t even think about it. It was just one of those things.”
Even before finding out that his fall tuition would be covered by the signal-caller, Porter spoke with Lubbock NBC affiliate KCBD-TV and said that he and the NFL star had good vibes .
“We’re bros now,” he said.
