Patrick Whitesell has found his first deal.
The former Endeavor executive chairman is making his first investment through his new Silver Lake backed firm: A stake in Peyton Manning‘s Omaha Productions.
Whitesell’s firm will be a minority investor in Omaha, joining Peter Chernin’s North Road as a backer of the former NFL star’s media company.
Manning and former ESPN executive Jamie Horowitz founded Omaha in 2020, starting with a building block of the Monday Night Football “Manningcast,” as well as other sports content. It has since expanded into scripted content, lifestyle fare, branded content, podcasts and other genres.
Chernin invested in Omaha in 2023 via his North Road media rollup company. Omaha inked a nine-year deal with ESPN last year, covering the Manningcast and other programming like the Places franchise. Omaha has sold over 30 TV shows and films, the company says, to a number of networks and streaming platforms. It has also invested in other companies, like the YouTube channel Good Good Golf.
“All of us at Omaha are excited to get to work with Patrick and Egon [Durban] as our new teammates to grow the business and create new opportunities for fans,” said Manning in a statement. “Peter Chernin and his team have been great partners over the past two years and have helped us build a strong foundation. I’m very excited for all of us to work together to continue to build Omaha.”
In connection with Endeavor’s take-private deal, which closed earlier this week, Whitesell and Silver lake agreed to launch a new investment vehicle that would invest in sports, media and entertainment companies, backed by $250 million from the private equity giant.
He is also acquiring WME’s football representation business, which will be operated separately from the Silver Lake-backed firm, though given the Omaha deal it is clear that sports are top of mind for the veteran agent.
Whitesell told The Hollywood Reporter that due to his ownership stake in Endeavor, the one restriction he’s abiding by is that if he invests in a production company, he will not exceed the 20 percent ownership cap that agencies are required to say under. “Beyond that,” he said, “there are no restrictions.”
“Omaha’s strong track record of creating engaging content puts them in a strong position to capitalize on new opportunities across entertainment and sports,” said Whitesell in a statement. “Partnering with Peyton, Jamie, and the Omaha team is such a clear choice as the first investment for our new venture, given their impressive track record, the strength of the business, and commitment to applying the same energy to continuing the company’s growth.”
“In just four years, Peyton, Jamie, and the hardworking, ambitious team at Omaha have built a dynamic business across multiple high-end content verticals,” added Durban, the CEO of Silver Lake. “They’ve executed with discipline while staying true to their core vision. After getting to know Peyton and the leadership team, it’s clear they have the authenticity, drive, and creative instincts to push into new frontiers in a highly dynamic, rapidly evolving media industry. We’re excited to partner with them and help fuel their next phase of growth.”
