Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings from the front and defeated Hardik Pandya's Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets in Qualifier 2 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League which was being played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. PBKS won the toss and elected to bowl first. MI batting first posted 203/6 on board and PBKS managed to chase it down with one over remaining. They will now be playing their second IPL final. Shreyas Iyer's heroic knock of 87 not out ended MI's campaign. MI Post 203/6 On BoardThe match started late because of heavy rain. Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow came out to open the innings for MI and the five-time champions were hoping for another great start from the duo but Marcus Stoinis spoiled their plan by dismissing Rohit in the third over itself. The former MI captain had received a lifeline from Omarzai in the previous over itself when he was on just three runs but he failed to capitalise and returned back after scoring just 8 runs off 7 balls. Bairstow and Tilak Varma did not let the early wicket put them under pressure as they joined a quick 51-run partnership and gave their team a great start. Vijaykumar Vyshak provided PBKS a breakthrough here and sent Bairstow back on the score of 38 off 24 balls. However, PBKS once again failed to capitalise as the man in form Suryakumar Yadav kept the scoreboard rolling at a good pace with Tilak both of them joined a crucial 72-run stand. However, PBKS bounced back by getting the wickets of both Surya (44 off 26 balls) and Tilak (44 off 29 balls) in the span of just three balls. Thanks to a 37-run cameo from Naman Dhir, MI managed to post 203/6 on board. Omarzai took two wickets, while, Jamieson, Stoinis, Chahal and Vyshak took one wicket each. Shreyas Iyer Takes PBKS To IPL FinalAs PBKS came out to chase, it appeared that MI's strong bowling attack would once again be dominating and Trent Boult even managed to get the wicket of Prabhsimran Singh by the third over itself. However, the tides turned when Josh Inglis walked out at number 3 and smashed 20 runs in Jasprit Bumrah's first over. Priyansh Arya (20 off 10) and Inglis (38 off 21) played great cameos and ensured PBKS a good start. However, it was the 84-run partnership between Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera that put MI under pressure. Wadhera who played a 48-run knock off just 29 balls missed his fifty by 2 runs but made an extremely valuable contribution. Shreyas Iyer completed his fifty in the 17th over and kept PBKS's hopes up even after Wadhera's departure. Iyer took his team over the line and ensured that Punkab Kings would be playing in an IPL final after 11 years. They will now be facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the same venue, on June 3. IPL 2025 will be having a brand new champion.
