The Peachland Classic Car Show has revved up more than just engines, raising $23,800 to support youth, education and wellness programs in the community. Organized by the Peachland Chamber of Commerce and run by a volunteer committee, the May Long weekend event drew crowds to Beach Avenue while also boosting local businesses. “Our goal has always been to host an event that not only supports our local businesses and brings people together, but gives back in meaningful ways,” said chamber president Jonathan Wall. “This event truly drives home what makes Peachland such a special place.” A major outcome this year was the creation of the Peachland Wellness Centre Youth Activity Grant, designed to help children and teens access sports, arts, music and other activities regardless of financial circumstances. The fund received $10,000 from the car show. “We are honoured to undertake the administration of the PWC Youth Activity Grant and to be part of the legacy it may create for Peachland,” said Millie Marshall, executive director of the Peachland Wellness Centre. Other donations included $2,000 for Peachland Elementary’s book program, $1,000 for Peachland Youth Soccer, $2,000 for Mount Boucherie Secondary’s automotive program and $2,000 for its bursary program supporting Peachland students in trades. Another $2,000 was granted directly to the Peachland Wellness Centre, along with $2,300 from the 50/50 draw held at the show. Organizers say they are already looking ahead to next year’s show, with hopes of continuing the fundraising momentum.
