Peddapalli: A Class IX student from Centenary Colony in Ramagiri mandal, Lenkala Vivekananda Reddy, is set to climb Mount Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe, located in Russia.
Vivekananda, along with his father and mountaineer Mahipal Reddy, will begin the 5,642-metre (18,510 feet) climb on July 28 and is expected to complete the expedition in ten days.
After reaching the summit, Vivekananda will display a ‘Say No to Drugs’ flex banner endorsed by the district administration. The banner also carries the Telangana emblem and the national flag.
District Collector Koya Sree Harsha released the banner in his chamber on Saturday.
Vivekananda Reddy has undergone trekking training under the supervision of his father. An ex-serviceman, Mahipal Reddy holds a Guinness World Record in international mountaineering.
Confident of completing the expedition successfully, Vivekananda said he hopes to bring laurels to the district and the state under his father's guidance.
